The Divine Five are the five eldest, still living, immortal Dragons of Eternia. Though Ryujin is the focus of Valmasian Dragon-worship, the remaining Dragons of Hoshijin, Tochiryu, Tenkiryu and Akujin are still as, if not more powerful that the Spirit Lord that the Drakanites of Frostvale idolize. Each Divine Dragon lords over an aspect of the mind, and each Divine Five member is equally important to eachother. Unlike most Dragons, they do not bother to communicate with others, or even remotely fight for dominance. Each Divine Dragon have their own 'spawn'. In Valmasia, Ryujin's spawn, the Firedrakes are the most common. However an occasional dragon of other elements such as Ice, Lightning, Earth and even Darkness have been known to appear, usually of an elder age of of great enough power to breach the peace barrier of Valmasia.

Origins

The Origins of the Divine Five is truly unknown. Many speculate that they were created by Kraus. Others speculate that they were also a part of Atmos and traveled with him in the creation of Eternia. All that is certain is that they have been around for as long as recorded history exists. They are the source of all Dragonkin Eternia-wide, and are speculated to all themselves, be related.

Powers

ch Each Divine Dragon has physical and spiritual power to rival that of the highest of Angels and Perfect Yokai. They are creatures that have existed since the First Era of Eternia's lifespan, and thus are not only old; but prove to have no known limit to their lifespan. All Divine Dragons possess the following traits.

  • Eternal Youth - The Five Divine Dragons are immortals that have been alive since Eternia's birth. Their power does not decay with age.
  • Immense Magical Prowess - The Divine Dragons possess power and magic comparable to even the highest ranking of Angels. Folktales suggest that a single roar from one of the beasts could raze an entire city to the ground.
  • Immense Physical Strength - A Divine Dragon's physical might is said to only be surpassed by Kraus himself. The dragons are fiercely-enormous beings whose bodies are capable of performing feats that would dwarf even the most legendary of magus warriors.
  • Telepathy - The Divine Five can telepathically communicate with anyone. Human, Dragon, whatever. It breaks all language barriers. It is said to be short range, with the exception of the Divine Five's 'Chosen'. Being able to receive and send telepathic messages to their respective Chosen warrior at great distances.
  • Magical Blessing - As seen by Ryujin, All the Divine Five are capable of magically blessing someone. If blessing a human or sub-human, usually this involves attuning them to the Divine-Dragon's natural elements, as well as giving them the ability to transform into a Dragon. While this ability can be seen in some elder dragons, it is flawless in the Divine Five and virtually painless. For example, someone not attuned to the arts of Earth Magic being blessed by Tochiryu would give them great control and near-mastery of the rocky, natural element.
  • Dragon Creation - Each member of the Divine Five is able to create dragons of their respective element by themselves using certain rituals, much like Archangels can create angels by themselves.

Members and their Significance

Ryujin

The most known member of the Divine Five. He is responsible for Valmasia's Drakanite's creation. His magics revolve around Fire as well as the guidance of spirits. Ryujin is the Dragon that shows Understanding and Passion. He is the Lord of Spirit. He is known to be silver, though sometimes depicted as red.

Hoshijin

Hoshijin is the largest and perhaps, strongest of the Divine Five. He works hand-in-hand with Ryujin in matters regarding spirits, only Hoshijin is said to protect the souls of the dead within the stars. Ensuring that they are cleansed and that they return as dragonkin once more. He is known to be golden, though sometimes depicted as a night-sky blue. His magics are Time and Cosmic, and he is known as the Lord of Time. Protector of the Life Cycle, as well as Wisdom.

Tochiryu

Tochiryu is the Dragon of Life, nature, and fertility. Considered the youngest and smallest of the Divine Five. Tochiryu is about the size of an average Dragon and green in color. The differences however are noticable. Wherever Tochiryu walks, grasses and flowers bloom. The form of this particular dragon is covered in various flora. The magics associated with Tochiryu are Nature and Earth. Though often shy and skittish, when Angered Tochiryu can be seen as one of the strongest of the Divine Five.

Tenkiryu

Tenkiryu is the Dragon of the skys and storms. Unlike most the other divine five, Tenkiryu has a wingless; long, slender body that is said to be capable of wrapping around mountains. A sky-blue or yellow shading to her scales, she is arguably one of the larger of the divine five if factoring in her body length. Tenkiryu is vindictive and scornful. Depravity generally upsets her, and in regions where both she and plagues co-exist, she is often put to blame for the plague-floods and plague-storms as an attempt to wash away whatever depravity exists in the skys. Lightning, Wind and Water Magic are attributes of this dragon, and she is also known as the Lord of Emotion.

Ryukage

Long ago, the first Dragon lived. If was quickly reveled - Sought out by brave adventurers to better understand the meaning of strength, the passion of flames. However - The Dragon itself avoided contact with humans. While it found them interesting, it also found them selfish, greedy, ugly. Despite all of this, the Dragon was still worshiped, it's name still called out in times of great need for faith.

And so -- The Dragon thought of a gift for these humans that held it's name so. It decided that it would bless them with the blood of it's very own - Would coil unbreakable scales tightly around their bones in protection, would alight a blaze within their blood. With this, humans could be a step closer to the greatness of Dragons that they had begun to hold within their hearts.

However -The Dragon was at a loss. While it wanted to bless the humans, it understood their ugliness. Their greed, their selfishness. A human will always do what benefits it, within the end. This caused a great schism within The Dragon - one that tore apart it's very soul.

The Dragon became two - The scorn for the venom of Humanity taking on it's own form in a Dragon identical to the First, save for it's scales of a corrupted obsidian. No longer did this Dragon find that it had the power to give -- It did not hold the divinity needed to bless something in the way it had before. No -- This Dragon only had the power to take.

Humanity was gifted with the Flames of a Dragon - The First was held up as their God, worshipped with a name sung to the highest of heavens. The Schismed Dragon could do nothing but feel scorn for it's past self, as well as the newly created hybrid race. They were Humans, at their core - They could never hold the true strength and pride of a Dragon.

And so - The Schismed Dragon locked itself away, brewing in shame and disgust, awaiting a time when the mistake it's Past Self made could be rectified.
