Demon-warrior-sketch

A concept sketch of Kzer-Za in his unshapeshifted form, drawn by an artist who was found dead in his home days later. The cause was "extreme mental aneurysm"

"The doctrine of Now and Forever shall remain unobstructed by the vile human-filth for as long as I draw breath."

-- Kzer-Za

Kokb'ael Kzer-Za, mythologically-referred to as The Seer of Darkness, The Dark Lord or The Imperfect is a yokai which has ascended to the legendary evolutionary rung of Imperfection. Kzer-Za is known throughout Valmasia as an extremely dangerous, evil and unpredictable adversary of all humans. He is best feared for his absolute control of hundreds of yokai, and his unparalleled physical, spiritual, and mental power.

Kzer-Za is most commonly referred to as Kokb'ael. It is the name he has chosen for his primary human avatar, as he does not allow for any non-yokai to see his true form unless they are scheduled to die soon after.

After his commanding of the purging and enslavement of almost 80 soldiers and around 120 villagers in Byson, the names Kzer-Za and Kokb'ael have become feared and detested names throughout Valmasia, primarily in the Byson and Tilandre villages.

Origin

Scholars estimate Kzer-Za's age to be at least 200 years, if not much more. Kzer-Za was likely created by an extremely-powerful yokai around the 560s or 550s decade. At a young age, Kzer-Za followed the traditional path of all lesser yokai, committing acts of cannibalism regularly and fending off both human and yokai threats. The earliest-recorded sighting which can be immediately-identified as Kzer-Za was as a Zeus Elemental yokai in the Bygonegrove region.

Through gradual evolution and assimilation of human victims' power, he grew to immense levels of strength and intelligence. At the age of 120, Kzer-Za was the most powerful Kaor in the land. He had reached the peak of his power, and found himself struggling to continue to delve deeper into the reach of Occult perfection.

It was not until the yokai was at least 140 years of age when he ascended to Imperfection. It is not known what caused the sudden evolution at such an early age, but scholars suggest outside intervention by some powerful force or individual.

Personality

Kzer-Za displays an extreme hatred toward all humans and anything associated with them, though he is able to tolerate the presence of Oscuri and Occult Magi. His speech is eloquent and well-structured, and overall he displays the qualities of a collected and rounded individual. His personality, however, is overwhelmed by the natural desire for power and dark energy and at times behaves unpredictably because of it.

He does not openly associate with any humans, but when he does, he is cold, businesslike, and unforgiving.

Kzer-Za has made constant references to various "doctrines" in the past which encompass what he believes should be the future of Valmasia, all humans, and yokai. His intentions may be benevolent, but the method in which he wishes to follow these doctrines is very much so malevolent. He has openly broadcasted his desire to "... cleanse the human-filth off the face of Eternia."

Abilities

Most records of Kzer-Za's abilities are obscure, but it is understood he possesses both incredible physical and magical strength, not to mention physical endurance.

Dark Magic - At the penultimate level of dark magic mastery, the Seer of Darkness possesses incredible occult power unmatched by any known mortal being in Eternia.

Strength - Yokai, specifically Kaor and beyond, are known to have great strength accompanying their great size. Kzer-Za is no exception, and boasts strength that could make even the burliest of men seem weak in comparison.

Shapeshifting - Imperfect Yokai are able to shift their form into anything they desire with great proficiency. Kokb'ael is Kzer-Za's preferred form, but it is possible that he has taken on the form of other humans before.

Mind Control - The extent of Kzer-Za's mind control abilities are not known; it is only known that they exist.

Lightning Magic - At the elemental stage, Kzer-Za adopted the element of Lightning. As such, he now has a natural proficiency with lightning magic. Lightning magic, however, is one of his lesser skills that only finds use when absolutely necessary.

Flight - Flight comes naturally to Kzer-Za, mostly because of his wings.

History

(Dates are approximate and are subject to change. They should be considered, at best, estimates extrapolated based off of primary events, for example the war of 701, the Umbra Mortem revolution, etc.)

  • Year 706: Kzer-Za met a small girl and took her under his wing, for some reason. The girl was tainted with occult energy that otherwise would prove unfathomable to most humans and was able to survive.
  • Year 715: Kzer-Za begins contact with Judeal Loki, the half-angel.
  • Year 716: After a binding contract with the half-angel and extensive power training, Kzer-Za was kickstarted on his way to imperfection. The process would take at least a decade to finalize before Kzer-Za had the ability to replicate Judeal Loki's darkness almost perfectly.
  • Year 734: The powerful magi Eline Sakete makes her way onto the political stage in Valmasia. Her overpowering magical presence draws Kzer-Za to her, and the two begin a strange acquaintanceship. Eline saught to recruit Kzer-Za into the ranks of the Umbra Mortem's arsenal, but Kzer-Za refused.
  • Year 738: A battle of astronomical proportions occurs at Alteros. After a major disagreement between Kzer-Za, Eline Sakete, and Hakim Najeer, the whole of the Umbra Mortem's task force is dispatched to kill Kzer-Za. Determined to defend his doctrine, Kzer-Za transforms into his Imperfect form and fights off legions of Ghouls and the enterity of the Umbra's magi with the assistance of dozens of yokai. Ultimately, Kzer-Za is defeated and slain, locked away inside the Kaor Blade of his creation. For the first time, Kzer-Za admits to himself that his doctrine is wrong.
  • Year 738-746: The Imperfect Yokai is locked inside of his own sword. He is used as a weapon by several warriors, many of whom had difficulty containing his power. Whilst in mental disarray, he begins to formulate a new doctrine. After all, he has all the time in the world with little interruption.
  • Year 746: Kzer-Za is released from the Kaor Blade after a high-risk soul-transferrence procedure with the help of Demergo Veltican the Kaor Yokai and the Eutrice Family. Eline Sakete is displeased and orders a bounty on all parties involved, including the newly-ressurected Imperfect Yokai.
  • Year 755: The Seer of Darkness assumes total control of all yokai in the Bygonegrove Woodlands and some in the Trystle Caverns. He begins a massive campaign against Byson, terrorizing the city, destroying trade caravans, and abducting countless villagers. Among the campaigns is a large-scale retaliation against the soldiers of the village, resulting in almost a hundred villagers slain or taken.
