The Wynne Tome or better known as The Book of Lichdom is a text that details the practices required in order to transfer the soul from one mana circuit, into another. Specifically, it details the creation process of a phylactery and the method by which a person may transfer their soul into said object.

History

Formation

The tome was first founded as a collection of notes on runecraft, as well as any other ambiguous field of research. Ram Wynne throughout the mid and later parts of his life became a craftsman, a smith by trade, utilizing runic inscriptions to enhance his craft, as a means to tap into the world's ambient mana. His first creation documented within the tome is Ragnarok; a sword which contained a strange constructed pseudo-soul.

Advancement

Since the first breakthrough, the book focused on soul creation concepts, transfer, and purging processes. Particularly, some chapters focused on ideas revolving around removal of dark magic, depravity is also a topic of research among those chapters. Eventually the study shifted from researching purification methods into the realm of transfer in general.

Another researcher's notes were added, the source of these are unknown; however they contribute most of the knowledge of any alchemical process required, as well as a form of sacrificial ritual. This ritual would later become known as the path to Lichdom.

Lost Knowledge

The book's whereabouts became unknown with the absence of the writer some time before the events of the undead invasion of Valmasia; Ram Wynne had went missing. Information regarding his whereabouts after this are vague at best, or simply rumour.

Requirements

Elemental Concerns

The human body utilizes something from each element, fire, lightning, earth, water, and wind all in part create the amalgamation of elements and the human body. In addition, the soul acts as the engine for the body -- providing the fuel in the form of mana, in sometimes very small amounts; other times, the amount of energy produced by reactions within the body is enough and the soul acts as the mere will of a person.

For this reason, one of each elemental orb is required in addition to the drawn alchemical pattern; on each of the five points given.

Eternal Component

A body is not eternal by normal design, various elements in nature of artefacts have been shown to be 'unbreakable'. In particular, kraus-touched items may be used. Components of a half-angel, or Arcanium, may be used as an additive at the centre. This, will then be used in the sacrifice of the person's existing body via a magical reaction known as over-casting, where a person casts to the point of lethality--

Resulting in the ritual destroying the body, the effect reforms the components into the crystal phylactery, their unbreakable nature is transferred symbolically to a 'dummy' body, which will regenerate endlessly upon being struck, whilst the crystal itself will become ageless. The crystal however does not retain this unbreakable nature.

Capabilities

  • Advanced Mana Circuit creation. The tome details a ritual that is able to create a phylactery, this in turn has its own working mana circuit; in addition, the benefit of being able to regenerate a 'dummy' body, that may consist of elements or merely the peak human form of the original person at the time.
  • Soul Transference. Naturally, the tome also details and expands on the teachings of Anean Concious, it solidifies his theories that soul transference is possible.
  • Eternal life. Those with a crystal phylactery are by no means immortal. Damage to, or destruction of their crystal will render their soul 'unanchored'. A soul with no connection to the mana circuit within this crystal, is identical to a soul that has lost a body, and will soon be swept away to be either reborn or purified according to the actions and current depravity of the soul.
